PHOENIX – State schools superintendent Tom Horne commended University of Arizona president Robert Robbins and Arizona State University president Michael Crow for their handling of student protests, calling it an exemplary model for K-12 schools. Horne expressed appreciation for their stance against antisemitism and emphasized the importance of maintaining a safe academic environment.

Horne highlighted instances of antisemitic behavior in high schools following certain events and urged schools to prioritize academic instruction over potentially disruptive protests. He drew attention to the need for vigilance against acts of violence, drawing a parallel to historical events for emphasis.

In reference to President Robbins' letter encouraging peaceful expression of First Amendment rights, Horne underscored the importance of civil discourse and peaceful demonstrations. He lauded the decisive actions taken by President Crow in response to disruptive behavior, noting the significance of maintaining calm amidst protests.

Horne's remarks serve as a call to action for K-12 schools to emulate the proactive and resolute approach demonstrated by ASU and UArizona in addressing protests, with a focus on upholding safety and academic integrity.
